As part of the Masterplan refurbishment of the Selfridges & Co store in the Intu Trafford Centre, Prometheus was awarded the supply, installation and commissioning of the new mechanical cooling system for the upgraded Beauty Hall.

The new cooling system was made up of two supply air only AHUs located above the Beauty Hall serving a new ventilation system; delivering cold air into the area via swirl diffusers and supplying a cold-air-curtain above the main entrance to the mall. A new 200kW air-cooled chiller, with 104kW free cooling capability, was installed on the roof and connected to the AHUs via a new, variable speed, pumped CHW network consisting of over 350m of DN100 F&R steel pipework with a combination of flanged and grooved joints.

The new AHUs had to be installed on a purpose built gantry located above the Beauty Hall ceiling. This involved a complex operation to lift the AHU modules onto the gantry and manoeuvre them into their final locations.

In addition to the HVAC works, H&C Domestic Water and Public Health Drainage service were installed to seven new concessions. All new water supplies were fitted with pulsed water meters and solenoid type isolation valves to provide leak detection and prevention capabilities.

Following this exceptionally high quality installation, Prometheus was awarded further works at Selfridges Birmingham, and the Selfridges flagship store in London.
